How’s this lad getting on? If Slot is the next man in charge what’s the chances Sepp sticks around next season instead of going on loan or being sold being Dutch? Haven’t heard much on him in a while.

Be nice to find out if Slot's talked him onside and Sepp's had a change of heart about leaving, the quotes from him last month were pretty blunt and IIRC was along the lines of "if I'm not playing, I want out"

The guy has has grown a lot physically since we last saw him in a Liverpool shirt and he definitely has that no nonsense defensive style to  complement with that physique he's built.

Most people will be annoyed if we don't spend 70 mil on a CB. Meanwhile, a kid like this could save you loads IF he is good enough. Don't watch the Bundesliga, but I've heard great things from him while away, so time will tell.

I'd be happy with someone like Arthur Theate. His move to Saudi is apparently off after the president of Al Ittihad resigned.

Plays as a CB but has been deputising as a LB for Belgium.

18m euros fee was agreed.....defo someone we should be looking at.

I'm not annoyed if we don't spend £70m on a CB, Quansah a good recent example of developing young players.

Anyway, if we don't spend £70m on CB, I expect us to spend £100m at least on DM or I will be annoyed  ;D

Yeah on paper it looks like keeping van den Berg would make more sense than selling him and signing a new CB. But who knows, maybe he wants more first team football or just isn't good enough on the ball or something.

Didn't look it tonight, but it's pre-season, so I get it.

Thought he did ok personally, Betis were pretty sharp in their press and got at us very high, especially first half, when our back 4 and keeper had the ball so at times it was a little kamikaze and some very risky play, not only by him.

Interview makes it clear he wants game time and he’s happy because now he’s getting it.

How that changes with everyone back will decide a lot

Yep. Emphasized that a few times didn't he. I'm sure Virg and Arne will talk him round into staying for this season to see how it goes and if he's still not happy then seek a move next summer.

Sounds like he wants to be a regular starter. 30 games was it in the Bundesliga last year? Not sure he'd get enough game time for his liking when all are available. I'd personally like to see what he could do but reckon we'd sell if we got an offer in the region of £20m with a healthy sell on/buy back clause in there just in case. He may look at someone like Nat Phillips and think he'd rather a fresh start, and who could blame him.

I just finished watching the game, I thought he had a good game. He anticipated things well, there were a few occasions where he spotted danger and swept it up by covering behind teammates. He also looked very comfortable on the ball. I think he may have a shot at being our number 4 CB if he continues to have a strong pre-season.

Liverpool rejects PSV offer for van den Berg - Most recently at Mainz 05

PSV Eindhoven has approached Liverpool FC about Sepp van den Berg. This is reported by Rik Elfrink from "Eindhovens Dagblad" and Fabrizio Romano. The transfer reporter reports that PSV is said to have offered around 10 million euros for the central defender, but was immediately rejected by the Reds, where the 22-year-old still has a contract until 2026.

Last season, the defender played 35 times on loan for 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, where he more than doubled his market value from €5 million to €12 million. The club would love to keep him, but due to Liverpool's demands, another loan deal is the only option, according to "Kicker". According to "Opta", of all the U23 defenders in the top 5 leagues, only Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite (22) with 68 percent has been able to win more duels in 2023/24 than van den Berg with 65 percent of duels won at FSV.

"I want to continue playing every week and develop further. In Germany, I enjoy Dortmund away in front of 70,000 spectators, Bayern Munich away against Harry Kane, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Leverkusen - I'm challenged every week against clubs like that," said van den Berg in an interview with "De Telegraaf" at the beginning of June. According to "Sky", the Dutchman is also a candidate at TSG Hoffenheim.

Been impressed with him in these opening 2 games, plays with a calm head. Still like to see more of his passing ability but if there's 1 thing he knows how to do is defend. Really like his positioning and awareness to spot danger before it develops into something bigger.

How about 4th spot plus a trophy, reckon he'd be happy then? If not then he's already set his standards above us fans

Jokes aside, we should be keeping him just like we did Quansah after he impressed on loan and then again in pre-season. We'd reap the rewards in similiar fashion.

He'll get plenty of games if he stays. Konate will be sidelined plenty and Sepp can be rotated with Jarell, and VVD will need to be rested throughout the season too...
