Pretty sure the only other time he took a pen for us he went that way and hit the post.

He shouldn't be scapegoated for a penalty miss, I wouldn't be surprised if the order was based on who volunteered, if that's the case good on him for trying to make the difference for the team.

I would have had him on at HT too, I think he could have made a serious impact but our timing of subs was off today and most if not all didn't have an impact.

He should have started. We know he is bloody woeful in front of goal, but he is more effective for the team when up against it than Jota. We needed him as a focal point to work their defence to allow the others to feed off. With Jota you just get the finisher, that's it. Jota is often anonymous, especially in games where we are not camped in the opposition half.

What is obvious though we need to bring in a starting #9.

Nothing about his appearance of the bench and his penalty surprised me. Was due that given he had his one good performance out of five at the weekend.

Well for me he performed in the big one last weekend when we needed him in the league.

A penalty and Darwin is asking for trouble. When I seen him walk up to it it was glaringly obvious what would happen. I can imagine our haters all across the globe smiling as he's walking up to take it.

Hope our fans don't get on to him on his socials tonight. Didn't do it on purpose and Donnarumma is an absolute penalty specialist so once it went to that point our goose was cooked because Alli just isn't that.

Yeah it surely takes a lot of mental fortitude to be a player in this age. He’ll definitely get a lot of abuse online which is a shame. I feel for the man but the player isn’t good enough.
I’m pretty certain he’ll not be here beyond the summer and, if that is the case, I which him all the luck in the world (unless he’s playing against us).

Good post and pretty much agree with it all. Media of this day and age can literally ruin anyone they like with no comebacks.

They don’t give a F**k who they hurt, mentally ( if he wasn’t already ) he’s fu**ed now. Easy to say afterwards but I’d never of let him take a penalty and one of the few mistakes 🦥 made this year.

I like Nunez as a person he seems like a good guy but bottom line he's just not good enough.

We need a striker with pace, intelligence, and finishing ability. I really hope this is top priority in the Summer.

Not much to say is there ... my 8 year old who should have been in bed didnt want him near one ... says it all about our 70m plus no9.

If the saudis are still stupid enough bite their hand off this time.

As for divvies getting on him on his socials, whats the fcuking point. Man is shot to pieces anyway and no red worth their salt who loves this club would be doing that. Critiquing a player is one thing, being abusive  to one of our own is the lowest you can go. He's a human being and sadly SM facilitates many faceless lowlife to lay in.

Darwin Nunez the player has been a complete disaster of a signing who should have been moved on the last 2 summers. An unbelievably average, limited striker who is clearly out of his depth at this level. He runs around abit and thats about it.

Get the winner on sunday Darwin. Tonight has gone. Onto the next one.

Don't think Darwin is logging on to this forum. It's the people who DM him death threats that Don is speaking of.

Anyone doing that is a c**t. People moaning about him on here is a bit different. It's a player thread to discuss his performances.

I don't have any hate towards Darwin the man. The one good thing from Curtis looking exactly where he was about to kick it and telegraphed his penalty to the keeper was that at least it wasn't just Darwin.

He looked really sad on the half way line. How any red wouldn't sympathise with him there is beyond me it's awful to see it.

But at the same time he can't stay here beyond the season. That much has been true for months now.

I hope he leaves with 2 trophies and big F**k off smile on his face. And I hope he can find a club and home where he's happy and thrives and becomes unplayable.

It's probably going to be abroad. Atleti could maybe be a top option for him. Can see him coming back to haunt us in this cup one day.

All fine but time for him to move on in the Summer.

Exactly mate. 💯.  Of course we have sympathy for him ... nobody wants to see that. Nobody hates darwin. Only 2 reds (ex) i hate and thats because theyre complete c*nts. Darwin is just a very average striker. If royal mail delivered the goods as often as darwin they would get criticism as well.

Personal stuff online is sad. Not something any proper red or fan of any team would do to its players.

It will mostly be fans of other clubs as nunez has basically been a laughing stock amongst rival fans for 3 years now so they will be all over him tonight. Hopefully he gets the winner sunday.

We need someone like Torres who can effectively lead the line and also very physical.

Hard to know what the priority is at the moment because if any or all of the 3 out of contract players leave those are priorities too.

We need a a decent recruitment drive in the summer and there's not much room for missing the mark.

I would have sent Gapko up.. the last thing the lad needed was to miss that penalty.

Darwin for his very own benefit needs a move in the summer, it’s just hasn’t clicked for him with us I’m afraid, quality player.

I told my wife "There's no way this is going in"...and not because I didn't have faith that he could do it, it just never comes off for him does it.

Felt for Darwin last night, It wasn't a bad penalty and it was on target but Donnarumma is a world class keeper and big ! to be fair we should have scored at least two in the first half and penalties should never have happened but that's sport isn't it ! I did think Arne Slot could have subbed a couple of players earlier because of missed chances

We need 4 players. A left back, a no6, a wide forward and a striker. All for the first team. If the 3 lads leave then we need 7 new signings and 2 of them have to replace Mo and Virg ....

Next season is going to go like many of us expected  this one to go. Ups and downs with plenty of bumps in the road.

This season is klopps team's final stand, end of an era. Be a very different starting xi next season. Pity we didnt start to rebuild the team in the past 3 windows. We wont sign 7 in the next 3, nevermind one window.

80 million quid strikers should be hitting the corners with penalties.

I've always supported Nunez but I am now ready to accept he wont ever become what his potential is.
Hope he enjoys life in spain

If Salah goes, i'm fairly certain they will go after Isak and look for the majority of goals to come from a 9.

Tough on Nunez last night, but honestly, I don't know why Slot let him be one of the 5. Would any of us have pencilled him in? Regardless of whether he wanted to take one.

As for the social media aspect. The player should really take himself off of X and insta and whatever else. It's clear he is highly emotional and reads what people say. The people advising him should help him on this front.

I'd be very surprised if he's at the club next season.

Nunez will no doubt be moved on at the end of the season. Wish him all the best, like the vast majority of LFC fans wherever his new venture take him.

His miss was symbolic of his time at the club unfortunately. We all appreciate his passion and team work but any striker that costs £65m has to be getting a decent goal return.

      Agree.

I'm not convinced he's a quality player but I do think he has all the qualities in him somewhere it's just getting them all out

Someone mentioned Torres above and I do recall me saying Nunez in his early days gave me flashes of what Torres used to bring to us
