One of Sir bill's best signings. Yeats would run through a brick wall for the club..and the wall would come off worse. Fantastic strength, player of his time but still a great pillar of strength. Served the club off the field as well. Very sorry to hear that news.

A gentle giant of a man. One of the first cogs in shanks red machine. When i was a kid my grandad used to talk about Ron all the time. And he knew a player when he saw one.

Rip big man. Absolute legend of this club.

Rip Ron, for such a big man had such a quiet voice and manner, was and still is the best after dinner speaker I have had the pleasure to listen to.

Could tell a story with the best of them. Told this tale of Shanks early on.

"We were Playing 5-a-side out in the car park and Shanks lets one fly, seems to go over the box we used for goal posts, Shanks start shouting * goal..what a goal*.....went over the box Boss...*never*....and Chris Lawler was close by and he was known for being a very quiet chap...so Shanks says *we can trust Chris....Chris was it a goal*................."No Boss...went over the box"................Shanks come back in a flash...." ....* Chris you never speak.....but when yer do...yer tell f'kin lies......*

"Whole lot of us were on the floor in bulk..."

It was only a few days ago I was watching Ron tell the story how he first met Shankly in a hotel in Scotland and how it was a surprise visit when he got the call that was set up by one of the colonel's of the British Army Ron used to play for down in Aldershot.

This was the main guy that made it all happen, from 2nd division champions to first division champions in a few years.

      RIP Ron.

      Passing of a legend.

Perhaps the only one of our players to have worked in a slaughterhouse, definitely the first of our captains to lift the FA Cup!

      Always enjoyed this story.

A few days before the final, Yeats had received a phone call from Buckingham Palace and been instructed – should Liverpool win – not to address the Queen until she talked to him, and that he had to say ‘Yes, Ma’am’ and ‘No, Ma’am’. During the final few minutes of the game, he had been wondering what to say to her and, as the shattered and sodden players walked up the steps to the Royal Box at Wembley, Yeats wiped his hands on his clothes before he reached the Queen, who was ready to present him with the trophy.
“You must be exhausted,” she said to him.
      “I’m absolutely knackered,” he replied.
“I’m certain that you are,” the Queen said, before handing him the trophy.

RIP Ron, thank you for your magnificent contribution.

Reading the Boot Room Boys again. He was very much like the VVD signing for Shanks and company. One of the missing pieces and once he joined it was game on. Also cool story about him trying on the all red kit and blowing Shanklys mind.

He always had time to stop and chat. Condolences to his family.

He was indeed a colossus of a man, Shanks used him as a model to show off the All Red kit, Shanks reckoned players looked bigger in Red and no one came bigger than big Ron, so when big Ron took to the pitch he certainly looked bigger, and must have put the fear of god into opponents,

I remember the footage of him & Saint retracing their footprints to show off our first FA cup from St George’s hall, the 40th Anniversary in 2014, he must have felt tremendous pride to do that again after all those years, and now he is reunited with his Pal to climb a different set of steps.
